Dreams…. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz……….

A necessary part of our lives- we all have them and research shows that we spend approximately 20% of our sleep time dreaming.  Unless you have a medical condition, most people have to dream because dreams play a necessary function in our lives.  People who have been deprived of dreams are more likely to become depressed and experience other mental disorders.

I often hear from newly diagnosed drivers that their dreams are more vivid after they start CPAP treatment…. How many of you have experienced the same thing?  What type of dreams do you have?  Are you a Sci-fi dreamer?  Are your dreams in color or black and white?  Do your dreams tell a story or are they just random events and people?  Do you ever have a recurring dream- such as you are late for a class or you have a final exam and haven’t studied for it????  What do you think your dreams mean????

Maybe dreams are our brain’s way of releasing or cleansing itself… like taking out the garbage – or maybe they are bits of random energy that light up the visual part of our brain- resulting in a visual snapshot or dream…. Or perhaps dreams are a way to work out the issues and stressors in our life.   Whatever they are… dreams appear to be a necessary and beneficial component to our sleep.
